Merry Christmas!!!

Loving Father, help us remember the birth of Jesus,
That we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing, which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful
thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake.
Amen

November 14th is National Diabetes Awareness Day

Each day Jilli gets...

4 blood sugar checks via finger pokes before every meal and then at bedtime. She gets 2 insulin injections every morning of 3 different types of insulins and sometimes one at lunch and one at dinner, depending on her blood sugar levels. Eveything she eats must be monitored and carefully chosen. Carb counting is the new math in our family.

Yet through it all, she's one of the happiest toddlers I know and always has a smile on her face. Even when it's "b00-boo" time, which is BSL check time/finger poke time.
We are so proud of you baby girl. We admire your strength and courage for all you must endure at your young age. We love you so very much!!!

High School ! ? ! ?

My little man is starting high school tomorrow. Tyler was supposed to start today, but Tropical Storm Fay canceled the first day of school. We are very lucky that Fay passed south of us, although she is threatening another visit inland. I cannot believe Tyler is a high schooler. I still have so many vivid memories of my high school days, how could they be so long ago? Does any high school student truly appreciate these 4 years or do we all reflect on how we took for granted this time in our lives? Homecoming, football games, prom, baseball games, sadie hawkins dance (do they even still have those or am I showing my age???), exams, SAT's, class rings, service clubs, "sign my yearbook"... To still be an innocent child, yet taking the first steps on the pathway to adulthood.
Tyler, my little man, I wish you all the best on this endeavor. You make me SO proud every minute of every day. Truly enjoy the next 4 years!!!

Jilli's Endocrinologist Visit

Hi loved ones... Jilli had her Endo visit Monday., 8/11 The appt went very well. The Dr. was pleased with the stability of her overnight readings, even though the readings have been high, there are no big jumps, in either direction, overnight. He did increase the amount of 24 hour insulin she gets in the morning by 1/2 a unit as well as add some short acting insulin. This will hopefully bring down her lunchtime readings, which have a tendency to be high. I was really afraid he was going have us give her an injection at each meal, so I am very pleased by this, for Jilli's sake. The insulin added in the morning can be mixed in with her intermediate acting insulin. She has the 2 injections in the morning, still, along with the sliding scales throughout the day should her blood sugars go over 250(hopefully the addition of the insulin in the morning will prevent this). She is such a trooper through all this. Thank you all for your love and prayers!! We love you!!
